How is this different form Early Fraud Warnings?

At ChargebackStop we don’t use Early Fraud Warnings (EFW) from processors like Stripe. They are messages from the networks that could indicate certain transactions were processed fraudulently. These are offered by most processors at no extra cost. Early Fraud Warnings are advanced alerts designed to notify merchants of potentially fraudulent transactions before they lead to chargebacks. These warnings are intended to give businesses time to investigate or refund transactions, helping to reduce overall chargeback volume and maintain healthy payment relationships.

It is worth noting that:

  • Around 60-80% of EFWs actually turn into disputes according to Stripe docs

  • Only 20-30% of disputes get a valid EFW

  • Sometimes EFWs show up after a dispute is raised

  • EFW come from fraudulent transactions reports (TC40 and SAFE), a reporting process very different from raising a chargeback
